 Sports Duffle Bag c/o: Vooray

A moody sky and morning stretches made for a great day. There is always something about breathing in the fresh air that truly calms the soul. Greeting the canyon each morning never got old. The air was clean, the view was epic, and the colors were rich in varying natural hues. It truly is a sight to behold and leaves you feeling mind blown.

Thursday Kylie and I are going to embark on an epic trip we have been looking forward to for a month or so now. We will be meeting up in Arizona with twenty something rad women who are outdoor enthusiasts just like us to hike Havasupai! If you don't know already, its a rad oasis with series of crystal blue waterfalls tucked away in the Grand Canyon. With this trip, we alongside all the other women attending hope to inspire each of you to make the decision now and just take a long weekend and get out and explore. With proper planning we were all able to adjust our work schedules to make it happen and it will be so worth the effort. Don't ever say you can't until you have tried!

Preparing for a venture like this is quite the task. If you are already into backpacking you may have all of this on hand which is awesome. For me, I had to do some shopping to prep for this weekend getaway and wanted to find the best deals. So here I am, sharing what I have found with you that were both affordable and essential for this trip.

The three main things you will need to hike Havasupai are essentials for sleeping, eating, and hygiene (alongside the usual clothing). When you're backpacking you want your pack to be as light as possible. I found some amazing deals on REI outlet online as well as High Sierra. Always check there first before dropping the big bucks at the actual stores. It helped Kylie and I to create a packing list via Pinterest with links to good product as well.

More details will come about how to hike Havasupai when we return, but for now enjoy our essentials packing list and start your prepping now. And don't forget to bring some cash, your go pro, sunscreen, hiking sandals, a hat and proper clothing especially a swimsuit! Hope to see you follow along our adventures!

It's Independence day this weekend!! Take your go pros out and hit up the nearest body of water. Catch some sun and enjoy a BBQ before the fireworks start. That's what summer is all about, soak it up!

SUMMER DAYS IN ENCINITAS

Encinitas, CA

Camping in Joshua Tree is so dreamy. There is something about the desert that is very ethereal and I like it. Chase and I came here to celebrate my (well…our) birthday. If you are into rock climbing and bouldering this would seriously be your heaven. For us, we just enjoy the camping experience and fun exploring and hiking it offers.

The best time to camp at Joshua Tree is in the winter and spring. Once June and July hit it gets super hot up there so probably isn't as comfortable. We went in May and the days were in the mid 70s with a slight breeze while the nights were cold enough for a heavy coat and beanies. We slept comfortably in our awesome Kelty tent and were grateful it had a rain fly to protect us from the wind.

One of my favorite parts of this weekend was waking up to delicious pancakes! We used two scoops of  plant based protein powder from Designer Protein to give us the energy we needed to get through the day. Feel free to find the recipe here. They truly were delicious. Happy camping!

Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you love! Please note, everybody's pregnancies are different. Some women can continue to lift weights and rock climb while they are pregnant, but other women are confined to bed rest and refrained from any heavy lifting. A good rule of thumb is if you did it before you were pregnant, you can likely continue doing it during pregnancy. It's not a good idea to start something new during pregnancy, like surfing or mountain biking.

There are always risks to doing physical activity while pregnant. You can trigger preterm labor or lose your balance with your new-found baby bump. This is why Doctors often times advice not to do certain things if it can prevent hurting your baby. In the end it is up to you and what you feel comfortable and safe doing. In my case, I always err on the side of caution since I have complicated pregnancies. You just never know what can happen!

Now that we got that out of the way, how does doing physical activity change when you're pregnant? Here are a few tips that helped me enjoy continue doing what I love while pregnant:

1. Wear comfortable shoes and prop your feet to prevent swelling.
2. Take breaks! You don't need to impress anyone when you've got a baby to worry about.
3. Modify your level of physical activity. For example, instead of running try a light jog or power walk. Instead of wading through deep rivers fish in a slow and shallow stream or stay on the shore. Try cross country skiing instead of backcountry skiing. You get the idea!
4. Drink lots of water! 'Nuff said!
5. Bring snacks. When I'm pregnant (and breastfeeding) I am always hungry. Having a little baggy of snacks on hand or protein bar is a good idea so you don't lose your energy quickly, because you will tire faster when you're pregnant than before.
6. Use the buddy system. Bring a friend with you, your husband, or a family member so you are not alone doing anything that might put you at risk of falling.

Motherhood is the most challenging and empowering thing I have ever done. We hope we can see all you mamas continue doing what you love and showing your kids what you're made of!

JUST KEEP FISHING

Destination: Hollywood sign / Location: Los Angeles / Distance: 6.2 miles round trip / Time: 3 hrs

If you really want to get your day's worth, kick off the morning with a sunrise hike to the Hollywood sign. Nobody likes their alarm clock going off when it's still dark outside, but you'll never regret the adventure it inevitably brings; there's something magical about hiking in the dark by the light of your headlamp, crawling over rocks and along narrow trails only to summit just in time for the valley to light up from the sun. The city sleeps below and slowly wakes up, and you can see the Griffith Observatory, downtown, Hollywood reservoir, and all of Los Angeles in every direction. I even spotted my neighborhood from up top. Along the trail you'll find the Wisdom Tree, which is a nice place to sit and think and soak up nature. The hike doesn't take long, and you can make it back to the valley for brunch!

LOVE YOUR CITY - HOLLYWOOD SIGN HIKE AT SUNRISE

Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles, CA

It was the weekend and I managed to squeeze my pregnant belly into waders to go fishing right here on the Boise River. Something I love about living in Boise is how the river weaves through the center of downtown. In a matter of minutes you can go from work shoes to wading boots and fish during your lunch break.

The Boise River is a 102 mile long tributary of the Snake River in the northwest. The River rises into three different forks; the North Fork, Middle Fork, and South Fork. Eventually it ends into the Snake River at the Idaho-Oregon border.

The Boise River is mostly used for fishing rainbow trout and steelhead in the winter. We always have a good time fishing local waters and exploring the beauty that surrounds our home. It's not all about the fishing, but getting outside and enjoying nature.
